French Colonies

Please describe who founded your colony?  Why it was founded? When it was founded?  Where was it founded? Are there any interesting facts about your colony?

French Colony
The French founded the land called,” New France,” renamed after Samuel de Champlain Louisiana was a state that was not fully developed due to lack of human and finical problems. Later, British wanted to claim this land and the French was not happy about that so they went to war, but in 1763 the land was broken down because of Britain’s win. Later, the French got a western part of this colony from a secret meeting. A little while after the United States claimed the land New France and this is what caused The Louisianan Purchase and this was about 828,000 square miles of French’s land. This costs about $60 million francs plus debts 18 million francs in a total of 15 million francs. The Louisiana Purchase included these states, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and a lot of other states.

Quebec was a province in eastern Canada. Joined in confederacy in 1867. It was first explored by: Samuel De Champlain in 1608. The French fur traders followed the inland waterways trapping fur and set up many forts or trading posts throughout the interior of North America. Cities like Montreal, Detroit, Green Bay, St. Louis, Mobile, Biloxi, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans were all French trading posts at one time. The French started colonizing in the late 1500’s. It was established in the 1600’s. However, the loss of land by the British by the year of 1763, people like the lords and higher up people left and sailed back to France, leaving all the little worthless peasants behind. Those are the people who are Quebecers today. By: J.S.

Dear MA,
I enjoyed reading your short story, but I think you needed to make it flow a bit better. Also, I didn't understand why you talked about the Luisiana purchase. Good job MA!

Between Verrazano's visit to the Atlantic coastline in 1524 and the end of the Seven Years War in 1763, the French colonized or visited nearly every corner of North America.
French settled along the St. Lawrence and Mississippi Rivers. They spent their time going up and down the river in canoes trapping or trading their furs. The beaver was the main trade fur. The law stated all furs, lumber, and fish from the French colonies could be traded only with France or other French colonies.
In the summer the trappers lived alone or in pairs in the woods. In the winter these trappers were with the Indians. They lived with the Algonquians and the Huron. Since the French helped the Algonquians and Huron, they became enemies with the Iroquois who were also enemies with the Algonquians and Huron. Many French settlers were killed by the Iroquois.
